GlobalPort is currently enjoying a 3-1 win-loss card in the PBA Philippine Cup. Much of the credit goes to star guard Terrence Romeo.
Before the Ginebra match on Sunday, Romeo was averaging 24.3 points, 1.3 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game.
In the win over the Gin Kings, he scored 35 points (12/24 FG), including five three-pointers. He also added two rebounds, two assists and two steals.
After the game, Romeo received praise from Franz Pumaren. The GlobalPort head coach pointed out the maturity in Romeo’s playing style, saying he’s slowly shaping into a two-way athlete.
“Terrence is a different breed. He’s really talented… but right now if you see the way he plays, he’s playing aggressive defense. He’s moving the ball around, he’s passing the ball,” said Pumaren.
“Prior to the opening of this conference, I sat down with him. He’s slowly evolving into an all-around player which I feel will benefit him down the road.”
Fans and pundits have criticized Romeo in the past for being a one-dimensional player, but Pumaren expressed that the flashy guard is in the process of developing other aspects of his game.
“He’s no longer the Terrence Romeo who would just love to entertain the crowd. He’s the new Terrence Romeo that can change the game, not only offensively, but making his teammates look good and playing defense.”
