It was a night of domination in the PBA Philippine Cup on Friday.
TNT KaTropa, backed by Kelly Williams’ double-double, made quick work of the Phoenix Fuel Masters, 117-98.
Williams finished the game with 18 points and 10 rebounds, his first double double in two seasons. His performance earned him Best Player of the Game honors, his first in four conferences, according to PBA statistician Fidel Mangonon.
TNT KaTropa had control all throughout the game, establishing a 15-point lead at halftime and extending it to 21 at the end of the third.
Jayson Castro came off the bench to chip in 18 points and four assists, while Troy Rosario contributed 17 points and nine boards.
Phoenix was paced by Mark Borboran, who ended with 18 markers. Cyrus Bagiuo, who was acquired in the offseason by the Fuel Masters, had 15.
TNT now holds a 3-2 win-loss card, while Phoenix owns a 2-3 record.
In the second game, Barangay Ginebra kept the Mahindra Flood Busters winless in the Philippine Cup after handing them an 89-70 defeat.
Japeth Aguilar was the high man for the Gin Kings, tallying 15 points and 12 rebounds to go along with 2 swats.
Chris Ellis had 12 points in 22 minutes of action. Rookie Kevin Ferrer also had 12 off the pine.
Mark Yee was the lone bright spot for the Flood Busters with 15 markers.
The win was Ginebra’s second win of the conference, moving them to 2-2 in the league standings. Mahindra, meanwhile, is still winless after five games.
