Jeron Teng began his PBA D-League career on a strong note after scoring 42 points in AMA’s 101-95 win over Batangas in the 2017 Aspirants’ Cup opener on Thursday.
Teng made 12-of-27 shots from the field and converted 18-of-23 free throws. He added 7 rebounds, 6 assists, a block and a steal.
“Sa kanya nagsisimula yung fire ng team at importante yung leadership nya sa loob,” said AMA coach Mark Herrera.
The former La Salle standout’s 42-point performance was the second highest output in the history of the D-League, only behind James Martinez’ 58-point game set last season.
Juami Tiongson added 15 markers for the Titans, while Ryan Arambulo chipped in 13.
AMA, whose biggest lead was 17 points, shot 52% from the floor and outscored Batangas in the paint, 48-34.
The Titans were only up by seven after the first quarter, 23-16, but their lead ballooned to 14 points at halftime. Batangas was able to trim the deficit to 73-68 before the start of the payoff period thanks to the superb play of Joseph Sedurifa.
But midway in the quarter AMA established another double-digit advantage, 89-72, which Batangas couldn’t recover from.
Sedurifa led Batangas with 25 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists.
