It’s official: the Philippines will host the SEABA men’s championship for men April 23 to 30.
The news was tweeted by Gilas head coach Chot Reyes.
The Philippines had previously hosted the tournament in 1998 and 2001.
This is great news for Gilas Pilipinas, the homecourt advantage is definitely a big boost for them since only the champion of the SEABA Championship will qualify for the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup.
Seven nations will participate in the tournament — Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
The country has won the SEABA Championship seven times, most recently in 2015 when the event was played in Singapore.
Reyes said the Philippines will also host the SEABA U16 championship, also in April, and the SEABA championship for women in May.
