Margielyn Didal hopes to inspire younger generation of skateboarders

Margielyn Didal celebrates after her run at the Dew Tour in Des Moines, Iowa, USA on 22 May, 2021.

With all that she continues to achieve in the international scene, Filipino skateboarding sensation Margielyn Didal leaves a tremendous legacy in Philippine sports history. The humble Asian Games and SEA Games gold medalist from Cebu is currently preparing for the biggest competition of her life and remains grateful to be given the opportunity to proudly represent the Philippines once again.

Margielyn is currently in her hometown for a brief rest after two semi-final appearances in competitions in Iowa (USA) and Rome (Italy). Next on her calendar are two training sessions at skateparks in Sta. Monica and Los Angeles in early July.

Guiding a new generation of skateboarders

Margielyn Didal began skating at the tender age of 12 and immediately fell in love with the sport. She then met her coach Daniel Bautista and has been working with him ever since on her way to monumental victories in various international competitions.

“There’s always been something special about her,” says Coach Dani. “When you see her skate for the first time, you just can’t deny the talent that’s in front of you.”

“I’m lucky to be working with Coach Dani. If you want to pursue skateboarding, make sure someone is there to guide you and always be safe,” Margielyn advises teens.

As she continues to follow her dreams, Margielyn hopes to raise the status of skateboarding in the Philippines and build more skateparks.

“There needs to be more skateparks all over the country,” Margielyn says. “We need a safe place to skate, where clinics can be held and more young people can be taught.”

Giving back to her supporters

Together with Red Bull and in partnership with 7-Eleven, Margielyn is launching an online contest to give her fans and skateboard enthusiasts around the country a chance to meet Margielyn herself and skate with her on an all-expense paid trip to her hometown in Cebu.

The contest is open to participants 18 years old and above and will run until July 12, 2021. To see the full mechanics and submit entries, visit
