UAAP S79 Finals Preview: La Salle vs. Ateneo

The “dream finals” has been set. It’s La Salle and Ateneo in a three-game showdown in the UAAP Season 79 men’s basketball finals.

Here are four burning questions entering Game 1 between the Green Archers and Blue Eagles.

If you’re Aldin Ayo, what aspect of Ateneo’s game should you be most worried about?

I’d be worried about their guard’s ability to get in the lanes and Baldwin’s prowess in making quick in-game adjustments.

Limiting both Jeron Teng and Ben Mbala at the same will expectedly be a handful, if you’re Ateneo who would you rather focus on and who would you allow to beat you?

I’d focus my defense towards Ben Mbala — get him out of the paint and double team him on every opportunity. It will force Jeron Teng — whose shooting remains suspect — to make decisions which, more often than not, lead to jumpers.

Isaac Go’s been tearing it up late for the Blue Eagles, how do you think will this 20 year old do against the likes of Mbala and Abu Tratter?

The key here will be Ateneo’s backcourt. If they can find ways to slice into the defense and get in the paint, it could create easy opportunities for Go. Mbala or whoever’s manning the paint for La Salle might commit and leave Go open.

Who wins and in what game?

La Salle in 3.
